Many anglers believe moon phases can influence fish activity, especially during periods surrounding moonrise, moonset, sunrise, and sunset. These times are often referred to as “feeding windows” and are commonly used by fishermen when planning trips.

A popular theory suggests that fish become more active during the 90-minute periods surrounding moonrise and moonset, as well as sunrise and sunset. Some anglers place special emphasis on new moon and full moon periods, when these effects are thought to be strongest.

While moon phases can be a useful planning tool, they are only one piece of the puzzle. Weather, water temperature, water levels, wind, seasonal patterns, fishing pressure, and forage availability often play a major role in determining fish activity.

For many anglers, the best approach is to combine moon phase information with current conditions. When favorable weather, seasonal patterns, and major moon periods align, fishing success may improve.Use the moon phase calendar above as another tool to help plan your next trip on Tomahawk-area waters.
